Lecture suitable for a broad audience on developments stemming from the works of Wiles and Taylor-Wiles on modularity of elliptic curves and Fermat's last Theorem
Abstract: Almost 30 years ago, Andrew Wiles shook the mathematical world by announcing a proof of Fermat’s Last Theorem. The key ideas behind the proof transformed algebraic number theory and the Langlands program in particular. In the first half of the talk, I shall give a gentle introduction to the problem of reciprocity in Langlands program. I shall then explain what progress we have made over the past three decades, and where we stand today.
