Two-temperature Navier-Stokes equations for a polyatomic gas and their boundary conditions

Abstract:
A polyatomic gas with slow relaxation of internal modes is considered, and the Navier-Stokes equations with two temperatures, the translational and internal temperatures, are derived formally by the Chapman-Enskog procedure on the basis of the ellipsoidal-statistical (ES) model of the Boltzmann equation for a polyatomic gas proposed by Andries et al.[P. Andries et al., Eur. J. Mech. B/Fluids 19, 813 (2000)]. Then, the appropriate boundary conditions for the two-temperature Navier-Stokes equations, which are of the type of slip boundary conditions, are derived by the analysis of the Knudsen layer using the ES model and Maxwell's diffuse-specular reflection condition on the boundary.
