The modern theory of singular integrals, developed and nurtured by Calderon-Zygmund, has proved to be a very fruitful part of analysis. In this talk, we recall the classical theory of singular integrals, describe the recent development made by Stein and his group, and finally discuss some further extensions of multiparameter singular integrals.
