Learning to rank is an area in machine learning which is concerned with automatically constructing a ranking model using training data. Learning to rank has been successfully applied to information retrieval and other fields, and is attracting more and more attention recently. In this talk I will first give a formulation of learning to rank, and explain its relations with other learning tasks. I will then introduce several learning to rank methods which we have developed in recent years. Finally, I will present challenges and opportunities of learning to rank research.
